Railings in Caversham The Caversham Traders Association have been trying to get Reading Borough Council to paint the railings around Prospect Street & Church Street for the last two years. Drews the Ironmongers have made a fantastic offer by kindly donating all the equipment and paint necessary and it would appear remarkable if the council turned down this generous offer.

Chris Walton of Waltons Jewellers, the chairman, met up with two council officers at the end of January to get some clarification if this work was ever to be carried out.

We have been told by Reading Borough Council that subject to funding they are optimistic that the railings will be painted during the summer. Watch this space...

Many exhibitions boards have been produced as part of the Caversham 100 Years On celebrations, but one particular collection of these has been dedicated to the local author and historian, Mary Kift.  Prospect Street in Caversham has proved that it is streets ahead of the rest of Reading's Retail offer. No less than four of its shops were finalists and winners in Reading's Retail Awards at the Madjeski Stadium on Friday. Also, two new stores have just opened their doors to customers. Charity cyclists meet Caversham Rotarians at Caversham Court Gardens Rotary International District 1090 Governor, Laurie Cunningham, together with Kevin Mosley, the Rotary Newbury Fundraising Chairman, recently undertook a cycle ride to raise funds for Life Education Centres by cycling around all of the places where there are Rotary Clubs in District 1090. They were met by local members of The Rotary Club of Caversham at Caversham Court Gardens on 8th June 2011.

Heritage Lottery Fund for Caversham 100 Years On Project

 

The 'Caversham 100 Years On' project has now been awarded a grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund which will cover many of the costs involved.

Prize Giving for the Caversham Traders Association's Christmas Competition on Saturday 18th December at 11am in St Martin's Precinct. The competition ran from Saturday 6th November through to Monday 13th December 2010. The winner of the deluxe Christmas hamper and turkey was Susan Alexander of Reading and the winner of the family ticket for four to see Sleeping Beauty, kindly donated by The Hexagon, was Max Munro of Caversham.
