At Alto Loungethe interior is comfortable, inviting and a bit eccentric with a strong use of reclaimed and antique furniture. The ever-changing blackboard menu is available all day and offers a wide range of dishes including an all-day breakfast, a proper-job burger and restaurant style dishes prepared using fresh, and preferably local, produce. There are also a variety of board games, daily newspapers, highchairs and a free neighbourhood book swap facility.

Alto opened in April 2009 having previously been a closed Chinese Restaurant called Le Shanghai.

Alto’s layout is spookily similar to a slightly larger version of Tinto with a large, bright open-plan layout located on Church Street, which is the main shopping street in Caversham ‘village’.

On the other side of the Thames to the rest of Reading, Caversham has a very strong, unique & independent identity to the rest of Reading & was infact in Oxfordshire before it was annexed to Reading in the early C20th.

Interesting fact
Alto was named after the car that was in front of us in a traffic jam when we happened to be having a conversation about names. Not original, we know, but we like it.

From morning to night we’ve got pretty much every base covered. Our Food Menu is supplemented by our Specials Menu, which changes monthly & for our Little Loungers we’ve got the Kids Menu.
