CADRA Monthly Round - Up

CADRA needs a new Treasurer
After 25 years, Stewart Bolton will be stepping down and a replacement is needed. Stewart comments that the workload is not too heavy and does not require an accountant: basic admin or book-keeping skills are all that is needed and training can be arranged. If you would like to make a real contribution to the community in this way, please get in touch. You would be very welcome on our Committee.

The Gladman Planning Appeal
A decision on this appeal, against South Oxfordshire's refusal of 245 houses on the edge of Emmer Green, is understood to be imminent. CADRA has been deeply involved, alongside local objectors, and we will let members know by email as soon as we hear.

Hosier Street Development Brief
RBC has issued a comprehensive brief for the development of this major town centre site, which includes Broad St Mall, the Hexagon, the old council office site and the Police Station. CADRA has been involved through our membership of the Conservation Area Advisory Committee. While the link below says consultations have closed, discussions continue. It is a major piece of work and, while we and others have some concerns about the proposals, it is an area of huge potential and it is good that it is being treated comprehensively in this way.

St Peter's Conservation Area
RBC's consultations on the new appraisal, drafted by CADRA, have now closed. A small number of comments were received and one amendment has been suggested in response. We understand that RBC's Strategic Environment, Planning & Transport Committee will formally consider it on the 21 November, when we hope that the widely-supported extension of the Conservation Area will then become a reality.

Buses
While there is nothing new to report, RBC have a short borough-wide residents' survey, covering a wide range of issues, until 26 October. There is an opportunity to have your say on a range of services including buses.

Reading Festival
CADRA will be represented at a meeting in December to review the 2018 festival, so if you have any comments or concerns please let us know.

Neighbourhood Policing
A leaflet, 'Community Information for North Reading Residents', is being produced and will cover reporting of crime and nuisance.  Volunteers are needed to distribute it: please get in touch if you can help. In the meantime, you can find key points at the end of the CADRA newsletter. Plans are developing to set up a 'Friends of Christchurch Meadows' group to keep an eye on drug dealing, illegal mooring and other issues.
